Support State Funding for an Indigenous Cultural Center in Park Rapids
MNIPL has another opportunity for you to support our agenda for Indigenous Rights and Climate Justice. The regional community development initiative Akiing recently purchased the Carnegie Library building in Park Rapids MN and designated the site as the Giiwedinong: The Museum and Cultural Center of the North. Proposed legislation provides funding for museum-related programming and educational efforts to teach the public about the history and cultural heritage of Indigenous people in Minnesota.
We held a press conference and joined two hearings in support of SF1916 / HF2091:
- Press Conference – March 16, 12:00 pm (the Capitol Press Conference Room): featuring Winona LaDuke, Honor the Earth; Rep. Kozlowski, bill author; and Kevin Lindsey, CEO at the MN Humanities Center
- Senate Hearing – March 16 at 3:00 pm (Room 1150 – Minnesota Senate Bldg): details will be posted here
