Interfaith Unity Iftaar 2021

Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light, Gandhi Mahal, and our interfaith partners welcome your partnership at our 7th annual Interfaith Unity Iftaar. This event is held each year during Ramadan, a season of fasting and reflection for Muslims all over the world. People of all faiths and spiritual practices are invited to join the Unity Iftaar and enjoy connection, thoughtful presenters, and celebration — even as we gather virtually again this year!

We are honored to welcome as our guest speaker, Iman Masmoudi, founder and President of TŪNIQ, a radically ethical North African clothing cooperative, and The Oasis Journal, a home for sacred anti-capitalist thought. Iman holds a BA in Social & Political Theory and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge in Classical Islamic History and Culture. She is a Tunisian American raised in North Carolina by two devout Muslim parents.

Following Iman’s talk and a Q&A, we will hold an interfaith community healing conversation with by Ingrid C. Arneson Rasmussen, lead pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; Louis Alemayehu, a multicultural elder; and Ruhel Islam, owner of Gandhi Mahal Restaurant. Louis and Ruhel are also members of MNIPL’s board. This conversation and the closing call to prayer (Adhan) will be broadcast from the former site of Gandhi Mahal.

This event is free and open to our wide interfaith community. Click here to register. If you are able to offer financial support to help make this event possible, that is greatly appreciated!

Attendees in the Minneapolis area are invited to optionally purchase an Iftaar meal from Gandhi Mahal. Takeout and delivery options available. Click here for the menu/prices. Please note that while the livestreamed event is free, if you wish to purchase an Iftaar meal, those orders are placed with and paid directly to Gandhi Mahal. We are grateful for your support of this local restaurant and beloved partner of MNIPL.
