DESCRIPTION:A silent home insurance crisis is placing at risk our fundamental ability to own a home. Driven by a perfect storm of economic and climate disruptions\, the costs of homeownership and home insurance are rising\, making it harder and harder for people to find stable housing. Rising homeowners insurance prices are fueling a severe housing affordability crisis\, placing a heavy burden on seniors\, first-time homebuyers\, and low-income families. \nWe need your help to bring this issue to the attention of our legislators.  \nWe need legislative and policy solutions to address the compounding factors making homeownership more expensive and less accessible\, including: \n\nSkyrocketing Rebuilding Costs: Inflation has driven up the price of building materials and labor\, making it far more expensive to repair or rebuild damaged homes.\nEscalating Climate Risks: More frequent and severe natural disasters have triggered a surge in claims. This forces insurance companies to pay more for their own backup coverage (reinsurance)—costs they pass directly to consumers.\nThe Credit Score Penalty: Home insurance companies often penalize low-income individuals for systemic economic stress rather than actual property risk. Homeowners with lower credit scores pay an average of $4\,112 per year for insurance\, compared to $2\,116 for those with high credit.\nA Double Burden: Low-income families frequently face higher insurance rates relative to their home’s total value\, often because they own older properties that require more costly maintenance.\nSevere Cost Strains: Insurance premiums now consume a vastly larger share of monthly housing budgets than they did just a decade ago.\nThe Risk of Ruin: With fewer financial safety nets to absorb sudden rate hikes\, families are trapped in an impossible position. Dropping coverage leaves them just one storm away from losing their entire home equity. Keeping an unaffordable policy forces devastating trade-offs between housing and basic human needs like food and medicine.\n\nAt MNIPL we believe housing stability is a fundamental right\, part of our commitment to healing our relationships with the earth and with each other. \nPlease join us for a conversation with Sen. Participants move beyond just learning about the history of these places and into a deeper relationship with their own responsibility for honoring\, protecting\, and repairing our relationship with these places and the Indigenous people who originated here. \nSpots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. This tour is meant for individuals or groups of less than 4. Experts Dan King and Paolo Spiern will present on key topics\, and Art Halbardier will give a tour of the geothermal system that Mount Olive installed ten years ago. Whether you are new to geothermal or have been around the block a few times\, you’ll find this session useful for your next step as someone who cares about your community’s buildings and climate justice. \nThis is the third gathering of the Congregation Energy Collaboration\, a growing group of building leaders and volunteers aiming to lower energy use and carbon emissions and realize financial savings\, a healthier planet\, and a more just society. DESCRIPTION:The Community Climate Resilience Network (CCRN) supports communities of faith\, conscience\, or spiritual practice to become centers of resilience for their neighbors in the face of climate disruption. This fall communities are looking forward\, with some anticipation\, to a free and fair election. Our dream is that everyone is able to engage in the democratic process with confidence and clarity. As people process the mixture of emotions (fear\, hope\, uncertainty) we want to do that surrounded by love and community. \nDuring our hour together the CCRN team will host community members who have participated in our resilience hub community of practice for a fishbowl conversation about how communities of faith\, conscience\, and spiritual or religious practice are uniquely poised to meet this moment.
