DESCRIPTION:Sun Day is a nationwide day of action on September 21\, 2025\, celebrating solar and wind power\, and the movement to leave fossil fuels behind. We all know that clean energy is the only way. Solar energy is now the cheapest source of power on the planet – and gives us a chance to actually do something about the climate crisis. But fossil fuel billionaires are doing everything they can to shut it down. We will build\, rally\, sing\, and come together in the communities that we need to get laws changed and work done. \nHere in Minnesota\, the Twin Cities’ Sun Day festival will feature inspiring music\, theatrical performances\, interactive activities\, and exhibits\, where the “solar-curious” (including families) can have fun while also exploring options for their own participation in the clean-energy revolution.  \nWe’re very excited to be holding the festival at Graco Park\, Minneapolis’ newest park\,  located on the Mississippi River in NE Minneapolis\, with nearby parking\, bus lines\, and bike and walking paths. The festival will be one of the park’s first big events. It’s an ideal location for a Sun Day festival. Understanding that history can reveal what’s possible for political action today at the local\, state\, or federal level. \nJoin MNIPL and Ben Kodres-O’Brien\, who will share his insights about the industry’s history—and how that history could or could not inform efforts of policymakers\, activists\, and other changemakers in Minnesota and beyond. \nBen is a PhD Candidate at Columbia University. Please join us! \nEvery month January – March\, we’ll read a recent book to learn about innovative approaches to addressing climate change and to discuss how these ideas could work in our local context. \nA primary reason we have accelerating Climate Chaos and profound societal inequity is that society delivers electric utility services upside down and backwards. On the demand-side\, electric utilities are healthier financially when they emit more pollution\, and conservation reduces their earnings. On the supply side\, big\, very expensive power lines are being built to accommodate renewable energy development.  \nWhile acknowledging a host of existential threats\, About Power by George Crocker makes the case that society’s major problems can be reduced\, if not solved\, with proper management of energy resources. \nIn this session\, we will explore the ideas regarding how to  of “end-use” analysis to estimate our energy needs (to put it another way\, how much power would we need if we were using energy efficient things in our life). \nWe will discuss pages 113 – 184\, including Crocker’s recommendations for moving forward.  \n\nWrite On Radio (KFAI) discussion with George Crocker (50 minutes)\n\nPurchase from Bookshop.org  or your favorite book purveyor.  \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP!!
