SUMMARY:Heat Pump Helpers: Process Over Product
DESCRIPTION:Join MNIPL’s Bret Pence and Rachel Wagner\, Creative and Technical Director of Just Housing\, as they share their experiences of assisting 5 homeowners in Northeastern Minnesota over the past year in determining whether their houses were good candidates for air source heat pumps.  Using a grant from CERTs\, MNIPL and Just Housing dove deep into examining the existing homes\, and used the results to undergo a process of examination with the homeowners.  Barriers to implementation were recognized and bridges around these obstacles were found\, with recommendations for future deliberations on this issue. The study builds upon findings and resources explored in the Northland Heat Pump Helpers webinar series from 2023. \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP!

SUMMARY:Your Energy Transition: Making Your Home Work for the Earth
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation about how you can reduce your carbon emissions and save money on your energy bills! \nOur homes have amazing potential to reduce carbon emissions and save us real money. A typical Minnesota household can receive $10\,000 for insulating and switching to electric options\, plus you get a more comfortable and safe home to live in. Join us to hear from homeowners who have made these changes and the many resources available to help you upgrade your home. We’ll unveil the digital audit tool created by our UNC intern team\, connect you to energy experts that offer in-person audits\, and walk through the tax credits and rebates and how to get them. \nAs the first fall chill comes\, Minnesotans know it’s time to get our homes in order for winter. Likewise\, climate change calls us to get our house in order for the planet. Many Minnesotans are responding and you can too. \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP!

SUMMARY:Climate Justice & Indigenous Rights: A Christian Opportunity to Rise & Repair
DESCRIPTION:Rise & Repair is a diverse alliance of people and organizations advancing Indigenous rights & climate justice during Minnesota’s 2024 Legislative Session. \nJoin us to learn more about how Rise & Repair can be a place for you to get involved and support the work different partners are pushing for during this Legislative Session. You’ll get information on specific bills being proposed\, ways that you can get involved\, and lots of opportunities to engage in caring for creation. \nFeatured Speakers: \n\nDr. Jimmy Hoke\, Director of Children and Family Ministries at House of Hope Presbyterian Church\nLiz Loeb\, Associate Director at Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nA note: MNIPL is an intentionally multi-faith organization\, which means we have supporters who practice a number of different faiths\, spiritual beliefs\, and spiritual practices who have a shared goal of creating a more just\, sustainable world. And\, we know that our different faiths call us to that work in different ways. This is an opportunity for Christian communities to talk about how a commitment to caring for creation calls us into action around Indigenous rights and climate justice.\n \nWe need folks from across multiple communities of faith\, conscience\, spiritual beliefs\, and spiritual practices to be part of this work\, respecting the unique tenets of our faiths while celebrating our shared passion for repairing this world and caring for the people in it. If you’re interested in getting involved in our work in Jewish communities\, please check out this blog post with a recording of a similar event for Jewish communities and contact Juventino at juventino@mnipl.org. If you’d like to help facilitate a similar conversation within your own community of faith\, conscience\, spiritual belief\, or spiritual practice\, please get in touch with Liz at liz@mnipl.org

SUMMARY:Faith leaders on Earth - a multi-faith panel
DESCRIPTION:Join our faith leader panel as they introduce us to the jewels of their tradition’s teachings on care for the earth. Onryu Laura Kennedy\, Buddhist priest / teacher; Lóre Stevens\, First Universalist Church\, Minneapolis \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nIt is common knowledge that many faith traditions offer wisdom about humans’ relationship with the earth\, but what are the specifics?  For example\, what does Hinduism teach\, and how might that be different from Jewish wisdom?  How does Buddhism guide its followers about nature? Is Christian teaching about the earth different from its cultural U.S. practice? Join us for a rich time of sharing\, discussion\, and insight. \nMore about our panelists: \nRev. Onryu Laura Kennedy (she/her) is a white\, converted Buddhist settler on Dakota and Anishinabee homelands committed to untangling the karma of genocide by engaging her Buddhist practice. From 2010-2021 she was one of the leaders at Clouds in Water Zen Center.  In spring of 2020 she was the shuso (leading monk for the practice period) for the practice period at Toshoji International Zen Center.  She has completed a year long Engaged Buddhist training at Upaya Zen Center\, and her application for being a recognized zen teacher in Japan has been accepted. She has an MA in Counseling Psychology and has worked on behalf of children and families for over 22 years. \nRabbi Ricky Kamil (he/him) works on the congregational organizing team serving the western suburbs for Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative. Be with people of faith and conscience as we affirm Indigenous sovereignty and nurture connections with our land\, water\, and all living creatures. Come away invigorated by the real change we are creating\, and the multitude of ways we honor and respect one another and the Earth. \nThis event will be held in conjunction with a Fire Light Mississippi Reunion commemorating the Treaty People Gathering and the beginning of the Fire Light encampment. \nThe host organizations for this gathering are Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light\, RISE Coalition\, and Honor the Earth. \nREGISTRATION BELOW!\nSchedule:\nOur “home base” for this family-friendly gathering is the Lake Ozawindib Group Center at Itasca State Park. We will have opportunities in the surrounding area to be in community as we offer prayers by the waters\, sing and hear good music\, share stories from the Line 3 resistance movement\, learn what’s still in jeopardy\, and connect with nature and one another. \nBelow is a general outline of the weekend. Join us for part of a day or the whole weekend! \n\nFriday\, June 2:  Arrival; the Ozawindib camp opens at 5:00 pm\nSaturday\, June 3:  Time at the Fire Light Mississippi camp; lunch and activities at LaSalle Lake State Recreation Area; guided nature walk; dip in Lake La Salle; singing and unity activities; optional visit to the IEN Teaching Garden in Bemidji; evening community meal catered by Josie’s Family Fry Bread; readings from the new Line 3 Anthology; music with Sunni Leilani\nSunday\, June 4:  Multifaith prayer circle at the Headwaters\, 11:00 am; box lunches provided; departure\n\nCost:\nAll are welcome! We do not want finances to be a barrier\, so please register and come whether or not you can donate. For those who can financially support this event\, please make a suggested donation of $75-$250 per person. \nThe host organizations are providing most meals\, tent lodging\, the group campsite\, and activities. Your gift helps us cover the costs involved in this event and ensures it can be financially accessible to all. Donations can be made online or in person at the camp. \nLodging:\nAll participants are responsible for making their own accommodations. Our home base at the Ozawindib campsite has options for tent camping or camping in your vehicle at no additional cost. \nThe organizers of the Fire Light reunion also invite you to camp with them in the ditch where the encampment was named along Mississippi. This is located about 8 miles from Itasca. \nCabins\, suites\, and rooms may also be available to rent in the Itasca State Park or the La Salle Lake State Recreation Area. Make a reservation directly through the DNR. You can also search for hotels\, motels\, or private rentals in the area. \nFood:\nLight dinner/snacks on Friday night\, Saturday’s picnic lunch\, the Saturday evening community meal\, and lunch at the Headwaters will be provided to all attendees. If you will be staying at the Ozawindib group campsite\, breakfast will be provided both Saturday and Sunday.
