MNIPL Helps Organize Second US Climate Reparations Camp

From August 4 – 7, 2025, 25 young adults from across the U.S. gathered just outside of New Orleans, LA for the Climate Reparations Camp, co-sponsored by ActionAid USA, Justice Is Global, Youth N’ Power, and the National Partnership for New Americans. One main organizer of the camp was our very own Analyah.

This fully-funded camp created space to dive deep into global climate justice, recognizing that climate justice in the U.S. cannot be achieved without climate justice for communities around the world—particularly those in the Global South who are on the frontlines of climate disasters and resisting the ongoing impacts of colonialism, imperialism, and global capitalism.

Participants explored the “Fair Shares” framework, which outlines the unequal responsibility different countries have in addressing the climate crisis—highlighting the outsized role of the United States. Within the U.S., conversations centered on how climate reparations must acknowledge the realities of occupation, slavery, genocide, and displacement from colonization.

The camp also focused on envisioning futures where communities most impacted by extraction and exploitation not only survive but thrive. Together, participants built strategies for advancing global justice in their own communities and holding local and national leaders accountable.

Importantly, the gathering was grounded in today’s political moment. Participants reflected on how the rise of fascism, state repression, racism, and anti-immigrant politics intersect with climate justice—and how climate reparations campaigning can strengthen urgent struggles for solidarity, care, and democracy.

This powerful gathering equipped young leaders with the tools and community to carry forward bold organizing for climate reparations and global justice.
