Concert: The Earth Sings Beauty

The National Lutheran Choir’s 2022 Spring Concert will feature the world premiere of Lament of the Earth, winner of the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award, with music by Steve Heitzeg and libretto by Susan Palo Cherwien. A special pre-concert talk featuring insight from Steve, Susan, and Terri Burnor from MNIPL will begin at 3:15 pm before the 4:00 pm performance.

Lament of the Earth is rooted in the premise that people of many different faiths share a common reverence for creation. Susan Palo Cherwien drew inspiration for the work’s texts from Christian, Jewish, and Native American sources. Steve Heitzeg designed the music with multi-generational impact in mind, including not just adult vocalists and instrumentalists, but a children’s choir as well.

For the premier, the NLC is collaborating with local instrumentalists, acclaimed mezzo-soprano Clara Osowski, and the Minnesota Boychoir.
